Can I Delete a Flavor Still In-Use?

Problem

A flavor has been or is planned to be deleted for instances which are still utilizing that particular flavor. What are the repercussions – is it safe to do?

Environment

• Platform9 Managed OpenStack - v5.0 and Higher
• Nova

Answer

Yes – the flavor may be safely deleted without any repercussions for existing instances. Instances are still able to be successfully resized, migrated, and re-built.

Note: it may still be recommended to resize to a valid flavor to avoid any issues for automation which may still be attempting to reference the flavor by name.
